There are three categories of VA sleep disorder ratings. You can have an insomnia VA rating, narcolepsy VA rating and a sleep apnea VA rating. By accurately distinguishing the symptoms for all three sleep disorders, you can obtain an individual disability rating for each one.
Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder. It is characterized by difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep throughout the night, resulting in persistent fatigue and exhaustion. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden, uncontrollable sleep episodes. Finally, veterans with sleep apnea may also qualify for VA disability benefits.
