Are there apostles in the church today? There are many people claiming to be apostles in the church today and they are big noting themselves and claiming to be something they are not. There are so many false teachers, greedy pastors and false apostles that it is impossible to keep up with them all. The bible says we should test those who claim to be apostles. Jesus commended the church in Ephesus for doing test those who claimed to be apostles, therefore, we should imitate that behavior. The word "apostle" simply means one who is sent. The question is "who sent them". Jesus specifically commissioned twelve apostles and he also appeared to the apostle Paul. But, are there any other apostles in the New Testament? Interestingly, Silas and Timothy are referred to as apostles of Christ. What does that mean? Are they equal to the twelve? Are they simply missionaries? Barnabas is also referred to as an apostle. What about people today that claim to be apostles like apostle Kathryn Krick or Bill Johnson? Can women be apostles?
