The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique "peer review" process, driven by UN member states, in which every country declares what actions they have taken to improve the human rights of their citizens. At the same time, other countries make recommendations for further improvements. The process goes in cycles - we are now in the third cycle.
The countries under review will have a chance to respond formally at a future regular session of the Human Rights Council.
