As a string player, I've always been more at ease playing with another string instrument rather than with piano. I thought it could be very useful to have a concerto which you could play with a friend, rather than having to organise a full orchestra, or playing a reduction for piano. So in this piece, the cello represents the whole orchestra! The cello is such a great instrument, and it's like a big brother or sister for the viola, very nice to play with. An eco-friendly, practical solution for concerto playing, especially useful in these difficult times when gathering in groups is more difficult.
