In this video I share my top 3 tips on how to increase your bench press strength & get to a 3 plate bench as a natural lifter
On screen, you’re watching one of my recent bench press sessions. On this day, I had 4-2-0 tempo bench and was working up to a top double at 140kg, on week 4 of my training block, the heaviest week.
It took me years to get my bench to this point and bench was always a lift I struggled with. When I started lifting, I couldn’t even bench the empty bar.
For years I benched once or twice a week, I did programs like 5/3/1, 5x5, etc and my bench just would never go up.
My best bench now is 160kg at 97kg bodyweight.
I have coached hundreds of lifters at this point, and there are 3 common reasons why your bench press is weak, in my experience:
1. Not benching often enough
2. Not following a good program
3. Not looking like you can bench big weights
