The contest started in Aruba as Miss TeenIntercontinental in 1973. The contest is organized by the World Beauty Organization ("WBO"), based in Panama. The WBO also produces other contests such as Top Model of the World or Mister Intercontinental. The current holder is Cinderella Obeñita from the Philippines who was elected Miss Intercontinental 2021.
