As part of Land Rover's 70th anniversary, Land Rover India took us on an incredible journey through time to the northern territories of West Bengal. In a region more famous for its tea estates, we discovered a tiny city call Manybhanjang, also fondly referred to as the ‘Land of Land Rovers’. Here a tiny pony trail snakes its way up into the mountains to Sandakphu, the highest point in the Sinalalila National Park at an altitude of 12000ft. It’s a journey that only the Land Rovers could complete. And since the late 1950s as many as 300 Land Rovers have been making the climb on a daily basis as taxis, ferrying people and goods and supplies up the hills to the higher settlements. We took a convoy of Discovery Sports, all-new Discoverys and three Series Land Rovers up the trail all the way to the top, even climbing behind the wheel of a 1954 Series One Land Rover for a few kilometres. It was one of the most spectacular drives we’ve ever been on and one that we’ll never forget!
