ISIS'S TAKES DAM
ISIS has taken control of the Ramadi dam on the Euphrates River, cutting off the water flow in areas of the Anbar province controlled by Iraqi forces and Anbar tribes that oppose the group. Now residents of government-held towns of Khalidiya and Habaniya only have access to water two hours a day. ISIS’ takeover of the dam comes as other Anbar Sunni tribal leaders have pledged allegiance to ISIS after they condemned the Iraqi government for allowing Shiite Mobilization Forces inside Anbar.
HDP RALLY TURNS VIOLENT
Dozens have been injured in an election rally for the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party in Erzurum. Police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse nationalists who were protesting against the HDP rally. This was the latest in the series of such incidents. Turkey’s General elections will be held on June 7th.
POROSHENKO WARNS OF INVASION
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has warned of a possible “full-scale invasion” by Russia.His announcement in parliament comes after Russian-backed rebels and the Ukrainian army fought in Maryinka town, what the EU referred to as the “most serious violation” of February’s ceasefire agreement.
IMF REPAYMENT EXTENDED
Greece has told the IMF it plans to bundle its four repayments into one lump sum of 1 point 8 billion dollar. In return, the IMF has allowed it to delay the payment to June 30th. This comes after Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he would not accept the terms of reform its international creditors had set to unlock remaining bailout funds. Greece, the IMF, European Union and European Central Bank creditors have been in negotiations for four months and if an agreement isn’t reached soon, Greece risks default and an exit from the eurozone.
