The Patriarchy has become a powerful feminist watchword for the unequal division of power between men and women. In some fields, though, the tables have turned, with women a third more likey to go to university, three quarters of teachers being women, and the courts predominantly giving women custody of children. Should we be demanding equality for men in these areas? Or are the arenas where equality is a mistaken gaol and women should have the upper hand?

He is the author of Red Tory (2010) which sought to redefine the centre ground of British politics around the ideas of civil association, mutual ownership and shared enterprise.
