Sometimes when we travel, we get caught up in ticking our bucket list, in trying to keep up with everyone else, making us forget to stop, take a moment, and appreciate what’s in front of our eyes. In the world where ‘Been There Done That’ tourism is trendy, Edward Huijbens, a professor at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), invites us to adopt a different perspective where tourism does not have to mean travelling to far-flung locations, but instead it can be done just in our backyard and surroundings. Here are his insights from pebbles.
Edward has focused his cultural geography research on tourism, landscape perceptions, and transport, particularly in peripheral regions of the world. With a particular focus on tourism’s role in climate change, Edward has gained international recognition as a scholar in that field, promoting alternative tourism futures.
