Puto Pao
Puto Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3 1/2 tbsp baking powder
2 cups sugar
4 cups water
1 cup powdered milk
2 tbsp canola oil(vegetable oil/corn oil)
toppings:
Cheese, sliced
Asado Filling ingredients:
300g-400g ground meat(pork/beef/chicken)
1 piece star anise
1 piece bay leaf(bay laurel)
1 med sized onion, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp soy sauce(more if needed)
sugar to taste
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp pineapple juice(optional)
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 cup water(extra 1 tbsp for cornstarch)
1 tbsp oyster sauce(more if needed)

Asado Filling Procedure:
1) Saute onion and garlic.
2) Saute ground pork
3) Add water, star anise, bay leaf, salt, pepper,soy sauce, sugar, pineapple juice and oyster sauce. Mix well
4) Cover and cook for 3-5 minutes
5) Add dissovled cornstarch. Mix well
6) Simmer for 1-2 minutes. Set aside and let it cool.
* bring 1 liter water to a boil
Puto procedure:
1) In a bowl combine flour, baking powder and sugar
2) Mix until well blended
3) In a separate bowl combine water, powdered milk and canola oil. Mix well
4) Combine dry and wet ingredients and mix well
5) Strain the mixture
Assemble:
1) Add 1 tbsp puto batter into the molders
2) Add 1 tsp asado filling
3) Add another layer of puto batter.*fill up to 3/4 of the molder
4) Top with cheese
Cooking:
1) Steam for 10-15 minutes over low heat.*wrap the lid with clean cloth to prevent water from dripping into the puto pao
2) After 15 minutes do the toothpick check. If it comes out clean the puto pao are cook.*but if it's still wet adjust heat to med low and check every 5 minutes.
