HOW TO BUILD TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN PEOPLE (AS A COMPANY DIRECTOR)
Trust levels are at an all-time low; however, in the 2019 Edelman Trust Barometer, trust in 'My Employer' is on the up-and-up.
The employer is now the most trusted institution. That’s right, 75% of respondents trust “My Employer” over business institutions in general and more than the government.
But don't mistake trust as simply a soft, social virtue; Stephen M.R. Covey suggests it's a ‘hard, economic driver for every organisation’.
Without it, there's low morale, disengagement and a lack of commitment. You'll also see people manipulating, distorting facts and withholding information. There will be resistance to new ideas, bad-mouthing, gossiping, finger-pointing, over-promising and under-delivering and, often, tension and fear. Everything will take longer to do, and everything will cost more.”
So as a company director, here are three things you can do personally to build a foundation of trust and confidence with the people you work with.
1- Focus on your circle of influence
2- lead by example
3- Demonstrate Ability, Benevolence and Integrity
