From July 31 through August 14, crews with Kiewit Infrastructure placed a roller-compacted concrete (RCC) backfill section between the concrete weir of the emergency spillway and the right abutment of the main spillway. Prior to RCC placement, existing fill material was removed, exposing the original structure from over 50 years ago as well as foundation rock. After cleaning, RCC was placed and compacted in continuous lifts. Simultaneously, cement grout was continuously poured on the concrete and rock foundation surfaces adhering the RCC to these surfaces. Finally, as crews completed RCC placement, additional fill was placed to regain access to the main spillway roadway crossing.
