Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
Most people in recovery programs when you mention the word God,they will withdraw from the conversation and I get that. for myself, I was an agnostic when it came to recovery the higher power stuff was all BS. believed in God but I didn't think that God could perform any sort of miracles and if he could I would be out of reach for these miracles.
So in the beginning, I used a sponsor in my group for good orderly direction, and this seemed to work for many years. Just because I was sober and working on my recovery it didn't mean that I was making good choices for my life and when it came to my daily life I found it very hard to make decisions that were good for me. So finding somebody in a group that you can trust was one of the best things that I did in early recovery good orderly direction !! These days I do have higher power and believe in a God of my understanding, but I do find it hard to trust sometimes in this power and I still rely on my home group and my sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous to help me with my issues in life.
So if you're having a problem with the whole God thing or higher power just make your group your higher power for lesser words and find somebody that you trust that can help you make decisions in your life. Pray on a daily basis even if you don't believe can help and you will come to believe, believe me. I hope you find this helpful and thanks for stopping by
