I was super excited to see promos for these ropes just recently and even more excited when Samson sent me some to test out. SD stands for SamsonDry (not SuperDry like I kept saying) which is their new proprietary dry treatment that is premiering on their V double braid rope family. As far as I know their isn't another manufacturer out there that offers an arborist climbing line with a dry treatment. SD will prevent these nylon cored ropes from absorbing water, keeping their total absorption under 5% of its weight. In my tests the non treated ropes absorbed up to 30% of their weight in water. This is a huge upgrade and causes the user to see little to no difference in function in the presence of moisture. I don't think I'll ever use another untreated rope from fall to spring ever again.
DISCLAIMER:
Upon further review I do not see the EN 1891 Type A rating for this rope family. It was instead a nearly identical family of nylon cored double braids that carry this certification. That does not change the fact that nylon is significantly better at shock mitigation than polyester, so, for most tree use applications I would choose a nylon cored rope over a polyester one.
