Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency have won the 2023 UK River Prize Catchment-scale award!
The River Restoration Centre awards this prize to celebrate the achievements of those working to restore our rivers and catchments, recognising the benefits to society of having a healthy natural environment.
Spanning 25 years of work with the Environment Agency and a multitude of partners, over 100 river and floodplain restoration projects are included throughout the Trent river system in Staffordshire. Projects have included urban, headwaters and floodplain rivers such as work through the Transforming the Trent Valley in Burton-on-Trent, SUNRISE in Stoke-on-Trent, and also work around Cannock Chase, the Churnet Valley and South West Peak area.
These schemes have focused on ‘triggering’ dynamic natural processes. Bringing together both geomorphologists and ecologists to design, implement and monitor our interventions.
This video captures just a small snippet of the work and highlights three of the major projects included. Thank you to all partners involved in the various elements of this work over the years, this work wouldn't have been possible without the collaborative approach.
