Misato Katsuragi is one of the most contentious characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion. She serves a crucial role in Nerv's mission to destroy the angels, but also in Shinji's development from a passive instrument of Gendo's will, to a teen ready to grapple with the consequences of his own inactions. Misato's contributions however, are marred with highly damaging and unethical actions that ultimately do more harm than good. In this Tony Funkumentary, we discuss the implications of Misato's flawed characterization and whether or not her inappropriate actions towards Shinji reveal any nuances behind her tortured past.
