Avoid this mistake when adding shrimp to your betta tank! 🐠🦐

When I first introduced shrimp to my bettas, I forgot they’d never encountered them before.

Naturally, they swam right over to investigate and immediately tried to eat them! 😳

Luckily, healthy shrimp are usually too quick for captive-bred bettas, who are more used to being fed than having to hunt for their food.

At first, I panicked and rushed to move as many shrimp as I could to other tanks.

I thought they’d never be able to coexist! But as time went on, I realized that this might not have been necessary.

Take Marmalade, my red and orange betta, for example. 🧡

After just a month, her behavior completely changed.

She stopped chasing the shrimp and now swims past them like they’re no big deal.

It seems she just needed to figure out that shrimp are too fast and not worth the effort!

In fact, Marmalade has gotten even smarter—she’s learned that if she leaves the shrimp alone while they eat, they’ll usually break the food down into tiny pieces that are just the right size for her to swoop in and steal. 😂
