In Pakistan, brick-making is a major industry that employs thousands of people, particularly in the southern provinces of Punjab and Sindh. However, for many families, brick-making is not just a job but a form of bonded labor. These families, many of whom belong to marginalized religious minorities, are trapped in a cycle of debt bondage, forced to work in brick kilns under inhumane conditions to pay off an unknown amount of debt to wealthy landowners. Children are often forced to work alongside their parents, missing out on an education and being subject to the same grueling conditions.
In this video, we explore the reality of slavery at brick kilns in Pakistan and the impact it has on workers and their families. We delve into the harsh working conditions and debt bondage system that leaves workers vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. We also highlight the work of organizations such as the Bonded Labour Liberation Front Pakistan (BLLF) and Green Bricks Foundation, which are fighting to combat bonded labor and support families affected by it.
Join us as we shed light on the issue of bonded labor in Pakistan's brick kilns, and learn how you can help combat modern-day slavery and support the rights of workers in Pakistan and beyond.
