How To Manually Backup WordPress MySQL Database, Files and Folders | WP Learning Lab
In this WordPress tutorial I'm going to show you how to manually backup WordPress MySQL database, files and folders. Being able to backup your website is important because you will want to do this before you install any updates to WordPress themes, plugins and core files.
Also, if you have a WordPress backup plugin, this is the exact same stuff the plugin does. So if you want to keep your website vulnerabilities to a minimum you can backup manually and delete the plugin.
Let's get started with backing up WordPress.
There are two parts to a full WordPress backup: first, the files and folders and second, the MySQL database.
First let's back up the files and folders.
Log into your hosting account cPanel and find the File Manager. Use it to open the root directory of the website you want to backup. Once the root directory loads, select all the files and folders in the root directory and click the Compress button in the top menu.
Choose ZIP as the compression and the root as the destination. Once the ZIP file has been created download it to your computer for safe keeping as part of your backup.
Next, we backup the MySQL database. Go back to your cPanel and find the PHPMyAdmin option and click on it.
In the PHPMyAdmin interface click on your database in the list to the left to open it. Then click on the Export tab at the top.
You can leave the options as they are: Quick & SQL. Then click on Go. An SQL file will be downloaded which you can also keep on your computer for safe keeping as part of your full WordPress backup.
And you're done, the full backup is complete.
