As a premed student starting a new semester or school year, your attention can get pulled in so many different directions. From classes to clubs, from research to shadowing, what should be your focus for a new semester? That's what we talk about today.

As a freshman just starting your premed years, or even as an experienced student coming back, your first focus each semester needs to be getting awesome grades. You can always add more extracurriculars in later. Try to get your grades right from the start.
You need to learn how you best study first. You need to make sure you're up to the task of keeping up with the study schedule and getting A's. THEN you can start looking for extracurriculars, shadowing experiences, and clinical experiences as a premed.
Getting good grades can be hard if you're taking classes while working, too. But it's doable as long as you don't overload your semester with all the other premed activities from the beginning, too.
So when you're starting out a new semester or school year, and especially as a freshman premed, make grades your first focus. Practice the strategies that will make you a productive and successful student first.
And remember, you can always push back your med school application a year to have extra time for more premed activities later. Another year is not much in the scheme of things. Becoming a doctor is a marathon anyway, so you can't have a mindset of sprinting all the way there!
