The prevalence of malaria in South Africa is endemic in certain areas of the country. However, through good malaria control efforts, the disease is now restricted to certain districts in north-eastern KwaZulu-Natal, parts of eastern Mpumalanga and eastern Limpopo. These areas have conditions that are suitable for malaria transmission.
To eliminate cross border malaria in Southern Africa, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, awarded MOSASWA - referring to - Mozambique, South Africa and Eswatini a grant in 2017. Following the successful completion of the original grant, the grant has been extended for a further 3 years to December 2022.
To tell us more, I'm joined now by Sherwin Charles who is the co-founder of Goodbye Malaria.
