If the remote key fob for your Jeep Grand Cherokee has a dead battery or is otherwise not working, you will need to use the emergency key located in the bottom of your smart key remote fob. Once the emergency mechanical key is removed from the remote key fob, you will then use it to unlock the driver's door. After unlocking the Jeep Grand Cherokee driver's door with the mechanical key and opening the door, the alarm will begin to sound. You need to start your Jeep Grand Cherokee in order to stop the alarm. To start your Jeep Grand Cherokee with a dead remote key fob, you need to press the brake pedal and then use the top of your smart key remote fob to press the Stop/Start button.
