Upon closer examination he came to the conclusion that their willingness to be vulnerable was what helped them out so much. These people weren't afraid of exposing their struggles, by entering conversations with an open mind and a genuine interest in trying to understand what is going on around them. As soon as they opened up about themselves and their own difficulties, others started feeling comfortable talking about theirs as well, forming instant connections between people. This vulnerability created an environment where opposing parties could find common ground almost immediately, a key element in any successful collaboration or negotiation.
