This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, as well as the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan. A five-episode documentary titled Inspiring Greater Bay Area—A French Sinologist's Survey of Southern China, is set to premiere on December 7 on Greater Bay Area Satellite TV Channel (Overseas Edition). An accompanying book will also be published soon.
The GBA comprises the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. The total area is around 56000 km².
As one of the most economically open and vibrant areas in China, the region is at the forefront of China's reform and opening-up and technological innovation.
This year, in collaboration with Guangdong Radio and Television, French sinologist and the Founder of the China-Europe-America Global Initiative, David Gosset, began the journey in Guangzhou, using camera as a tool to uncover the accomplishments of the GBA and the vibrant stories behind them. Through the lens of everyday life—food, clothing, shelter, and transportation—he seeks to gain a deeper understanding of China's transformation and development in the 21st century.
