West Village residents fear that the small respite from violent crime following a heightened police presence in their area could be short-lived. Their plight was highlighted by the gang-rape and robbery of eight women filming a music video in the area two weeks ago. 81 people were arrested a day after the incident. This week 14 appeared briefly in court on charges of multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, robbery with aggravated circumstances, and contravention of the Immigration Act. The NPA says there are reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.
