The Walk of Peace is a trail in Slovenia that goes along the Soča river, from the Alps to the Mediterranean sea and follows what used to be the front line of world war 1, which was fought between the Austro-Hungarian empire on the side of the central powers and Italy on the side of the Entente.
This was my first thru hike ever, even a first multi day hike. I was planning to do the length of the trail in two weeks(there are multiple side trails). Because of a lack of time and the fact that I injured my knee I only got to around Nova Gorica, which is about half way done.
I started in Log pod Mangartom, went through Bovec, then visited the open museum in Zaprikraj on the way to Kobarid. Here I had a day of rest and some time to visit the incredible ww1 museum. The next stage was the mountain hut Kuhinja near the incredible Krn and Batognica. From there I hiked to Mrzli Vrh, passed the Holy Spirit church of Javorca, down to Tolmin. There my knee really started to hurt, so I took a couple of days off. After a couple of days I continued to Kolovrat, which is famous for the breakthrough in the 12th battle of the Soča/Isonzo front.
On my last day I went through the village Kambreško down to Plave, again near the Soča river. Here I broke and lost all my energy to continue and just got on a train to Nova Gorica and back home to Ljubljana.
There are a lot of places I missed and would have loved to see, if I could then continue on, but I guess I'll have to get back on trail some other day and time.
Thanks for watching and I hope this inspires you to go on the Walk of Peace.
