Traditional Emirati Luqaimat | Arabian Famous Sweet Dumplings Dessert | @Nishooskitchen
Luqaimat, also known as Arabian sweet dumplings , are delightful Arabic dessert that are a staple in Emirati cuisine and enjoyed across the Arab world. These small, golden, deep-fried dough balls are characterized by their crispy exterior and soft, airy interior. Traditionally, they are drizzled with sugar, date syrup or honey, adding a touch of sweetness that perfectly complements their rich flavor. Often served during Ramadan and festive occasions, luqaimat are a beloved treat that bring people together, symbolizing hospitality and shared joy. With this recipe, you can create these delicious morsels at home and experience a taste of authentic Arabic culinary tradition.
INGREDIENTS :
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/3 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup warm water (or as needed)
- Oil, for frying
For the syrup:
- 1 and 1/2 CUP of sugar to make sugar syrup.
-date syrup (dibs) or honey can also use.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Prepare the Dough:
* In a small bowl, add 1 tbs of instant yeast, 1 tbs of sugar, add little water and mix it well.
* In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, add 1/3 tbs of baking powder, a pinch of salt, add the yeast mixture in to that.
* Add gradually warm water. Mix until a smooth, thick batter forms.
* Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the batter proof in a warm place for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
2. Frying:
* In a deep frying pan or pot, heat oil over medium heat.
* Once the oil is hot, drop small spoonfuls of the batter into the oil. You can use your hands, a piping bag to make uniform balls.
* Fry the dough balls until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
* Remove the fried luqaimat using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
3. Coating with Syrup:
* Place the fried luqaimat in a plate or large bowl.
* Drizzle generously with the sugar or date syrup or honey while they are still warm. Toss to coat evenly.
4. Serving:
- Serve the luqaimat warm, garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds if desired.
