There are a little under 6,000 wild elephants in Sri Lanka (2011 census) and here is one of them. This friendly (though wild) elephant was on the B35 between Kataragama and Buttala. This road runs along the edge of Yala West National Park and is fairly close to the tourist center of Tissa (Tissamaharama). This is the second wild elephant I've come across in Sri Lanka.
