My first big project of converting the Bachmann 150/1 in to the Network Rail 950001.
This video shows the summary of each key stage of the conversion (when I remembered to take pictures!) plus a short running session of the finished Track Recording Unit at the end.
It is a conversion I have been wanting to do for some time and although some specialists offer a finished conversion I thought I’d give it a go myself so after picking up a secondhand Bachmann Centro DMU and following the antiquated ordering process from PH Designs I got cracking.
Decals were from Railtec Transfers and the main paint is Railmatch Network Rail yellow.
The DCC sound chip is a Loksound V5 from Legomanbiffo and speaker is the 25x25x7 megabass from roads and rails which I ended up installing underneath the unit in place of the speaker housing.
A lot was learned along the way and it is by no means perfect however it is good enough to be run on the layout. Still a couple more decals I’ve noticed need to be added and small details, especially on the ends.
The journey took around 3 months in total but was interlaced with other projects and for the most part, was enjoyable.
I think that covers all the potential questions however happy to answer any others you may have.
