Novelist Ernest J. Gaines, appearing on March 6, 1974 at his alma mater, San Francisco State University, reads from an early typescript of his 1978 novel In My Father's House, the dense three pages of which he notes is the only work he's done following his 1971 novel, A Long Day in November, and the adaptation of his prior novel, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, into the 9 times Emmy Award-winning TV film (Best Lead Actress in a Drama, and Actress of the Year, Cicely Tyson).
