The mathematical equations that went into climate models were known as far back as 1906, says Tyler Prize 2019 Laureate Warren M. Washington.
These gave scientists an idea of how to solve equations. Not long after, another scientist, during World War 1, tried to solve the equations by hand. This early work all led to the complex modeling work our two 2019 Laureates could do.
