And in Europe, reports that the EU bowed to pressure from Beijing and diluted a document about Chinese disinformation over the virus.
The Chinese regime tried to block a European Union report that documents China’s disinformation campaign about the pandemic.
The report cites Beijing’s efforts to curtail mentions of China as the origin of the virus, as well as disinformation that blames the United States for spreading the disease internationally.
The report was eventually released although some criticism of the Chinese regime was rearranged or removed. That's according to four diplomatic sources cited by Reuters.
The Chinese regime threatened EU diplomats with a response if the report was released, according to information obtained by the New York Times.
In a letter addressed to the EU's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, 57 members of Parliament asked for a "formal explanation" on what happened.
Member of Parliament Tomáš Zdechovský is one of them.
"It's totally unacceptable. This is not possible to accept China's influence on EU politics."
Zdechovský also said this isn't the first time the Chinese regime has tried to put pressure on EU diplomats for its own purposes.
In 2014 there was a lot of influence of China on many issues. They wanted to change some reports. They were in connection with many democratic politicians especially from the left side of the political spectrum and they influenced them a lot because they boycotted a lot of reports.
Borrell said last month that Europe needed to defend itself in the “global battle of narratives” over the #ccp virus.
