Esther Assuied performs the 6th choral, “O wie selig seid ihr doch”, from Johannes Brahms’ Eleven Chorale Preludes, Op. 122. Composed in 1896, this work is among the composer’s final creations, written shortly after the passing of his dear friend Clara Schumann. These preludes were published posthumously in 1902.
The performance takes place on the Cavaillé-Coll organ of the Sainte-Croix Church in Saint-Servan, Saint-Malo. Built in 1885, this remarkable instrument predates the composition of the Eleven Chorale Preludes by ten years.
Special thanks to Laurent Hesry, the titular organist, and Hervé Huet, the parish priest, for their support and hospitality.
