New lithium iron phosphate batteries that Tesla is using for its Model Y, specifically the "Juniper" and "Opal" versions, are reported to come from manufacturers CATL and BYD. These batteries are expected to offer a significant range increase, up to 20% more than the current model. Additionally, these new batteries will support much faster charging speeds, with power peaks reaching up to 560 kW. This means Tesla will need to upgrade the Model Y platform to fully leverage the benefits of these new batteries, which could potentially make it more competitive in the market.
