Anticholinergic drugs are medications that block the effects of neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system. Neuromuscular blocking agents are medications that antagonize nicotinic cholinergic receptors on skeletal muscle to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide muscle relaxation during surgery. This pharmacology lecture covers topics such as mechanism of action of cholinergic antagonists; antimuscarinic agents, ganglionic blockers, neuromuscular nondepolarizing & depolarizing agents, phase 1 and phase 2 block, anticholinergic side effects. Anticholinergic drugs mentioned include; Atropine, Cyclopentolate, Tropicamide, Scopolamine, Ipratropium, Tiotropium, Tolterodine, Darifenacin, Solifenacin, Oxybutynin, Trospium, Fesoterodine, Benztropine, Trihexyphenidyl, Nicotine, Cisatracurium, Pancuronium, Rocuronium, Vecuronium, Atracurium, Succinylcholine.
