St. Augustine explains that there are two forms of knowledge given to the angels: morning and evening knowledge.

Although all angels were created having evening knowledge (knowledge of the natural order of the universe that goes beyond human understanding), their creation was not fully complete.

Like us, angelic beings have intellect and free will. The angels that chose to glorify and serve God were given morning knowledge, which completed their creation. The fallen angels who misused their knowledge to rebel against God- demons- lack this perfect knowledge and are thus incomplete in their creation.
