Centre for Independent Studies’ Aidan Morrison says it’s “not consistently the case” that Australia’s coal-fired power plants are falling apart and urgently need to be replaced.
Mr Morrison told Sky News Australia this narrative is “overexaggerated”.
“Plenty of coal plants actually have a long time to live,” he said.
“If they were to live to their natural and expected lives, some of those would still be going in the late 2040s up to around 2050.
“So, it’s not consistently the case that actually they’re falling apart and urgently need to be replaced.”
