OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) - There's a new push to allow guns on college campuses following the attack at The Ohio State University.
A bill up for debate in the Ohio House could allow loaded, hidden handguns onto some college campuses as well as day-care centers, police stations, and airports.
For some, the attack at Ohio State was a call to arms: allowing concealed carry on campus. While some at Miami University supported it, others admitted to being uneasy about the idea.
A week after a student drove into a crowd of people and stabbed several on the OSU campus, armed gun rights advocates staged an open carry walk on campus. They think the state should allow concealed carry on college campuses.
Jeffry Smith held a similar open carry walk on the campus of Miami University in the spring of 2016. There were students for and against - some asked questions. In the wake of what happened at Ohio State, Miami students weighed in on whether it was time for concealed carry on campus. There were those that wonder what would have happened at Ohio State had a student with a concealed carry permit been present during the attack.
Smith knew there were others who worry about students walking around a college campus armed. He said while some states give colleges the option of allowing concealed carry, he thinks it should be mandatory.
Local 12 News reached out to Miami, no one was available for comment.
The Ohio House passed a bill allowing concealed carry in 2015. It's now working its way through the Senate.
