The SC in a significant verdict today upheld the 2016 demonetisation decision taken by the PM Modi Government. One judge differs from the verdict. The demonetisation decision taken in 2016 led to Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to be banned from circulation in massive blow to fake currency and tax evasion. Many petitions were filed challenging the validity of the demonetisation verdict with some claiming that the Government did not consult with the Reserve Bank of India. But the apex court has now decided that the demonetisation decision was taken in consultation with the RBI and that it was valid.
