ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- A big day for the future of aviation, thanks to a brand new G.E. facility in Asheville. Governor Pat McCrory was in town Wednesday, for the ribbon-cutting at the high-tech factory on Sweeten Creek Road.
News 13's Lauren Brigman attended the grand opening ceremony. Not only is this new facility the first of its kind, it's also going to bring over 200 jobs to our state, 50 of those in Asheville.
The new plant will be the first in the world to mass produce engine components made of advanced ceramic matrix composite materials. The company says ultimately, this technology will help drive down fuel costs for airlines.
