The new Congress is 3 months old, and Democrats continue to double down on abortion. Once again, they have introduced a bill that would enshrine federal abortion rights. Republicans say this is another attempt to get around the US Supreme Court's decision regarding Roe v Wade. Democrats say they are trying to protect women's freedom. Representative Judy Chu stated, "No one, not the president, not a Supreme Court justice, not your partner, should be able to force you to remain pregnant if you do not wish to." Over 200 Democrats have signed on to the Women's Health Protection Act, which the Senate blocked last year. House Democrats say they know who to blame. Representative Hakeem Jeffries said, "The extreme MAGA Republicans think they should be the ones who make decisions about abortion care. We're here to say, back up off the women of America. It's their decision." More than a dozen states have banned or restricted abortion access since Roe was overturned 6 months ago, with more likely to follow. Abortion activists say these laws hurt minorities. However, Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, a doctor, says we need to protect the unborn from abortion on demand.
