Ditchling Morris are a mixed side of folk dancers and musicians local to Sussex. We dance in the traditional Cotswold style and are proud to be multi-generational.
Ditchling Morris was formed in 1985 as a mixed family side performing mainly Cotswold Morris dances, from the villages of Bucknell, Fieldtown, Adderbury, Bledington, and Hinton in the Hedges. The side also performs Raglan, Upton upon Severn, Litchfield, and occasionally Border and Molly. Side members choreograph some of the dances that we do. Morris dancing is widely recognised as an essentially English tradition and we are a mixed side performing mainly Cotswold Morris dances that are elegant and energetic.
We welcome newcomers who are keen to keep our English folk heritage alive through performance. If you are interested in joining the side as a dancer or musician, please use the 'Contact Us' page to enquire about attending practices.
Ditchling is a village in East Sussex, 10 miles north of Brighton, at the foot of the South Downs.
About Morris dance: Morris dancing is a form of English folk dance usually accompanied by music. It is based on rhythmic stepping and the execution of choreographed figures by a group of dancers, usually wearing bell pads on their shins. Implements such as sticks, swords and handkerchiefs may also be wielded by the dancers.
