WHAT IS THE BICEP MUSCLE?
The biceps brachii, commonly known as the bicep muscle, is one of the prominent muscles in the upper arm. It is a two-headed muscle that runs along the front of the upper arm. The term "biceps" refers to the two heads of the muscle
WHAT IS BICEP TENDONITIS?
Bicep tendonitis is a condition that can happen when the bicep muscle gets irritated and inflamed. The bicep muscle has a tendon, which is like a tough rope that attaches the muscle to the bone. When this tendon gets stressed or overused, it can become swollen and painful, and that's what we call bicep tendonitis.
WHAT CAUSES BICEP TENDONITIS?
Bicep tendonitis is typically caused by overuse and/or a traumatic injury. It is a common injury for individuals that “overdid it” in the gym. It also is caused by biomechanical issues that can include poor biomechanics, muscle weakness/imbalance, or lack of flexibility.
HOW TO TREAT BICEP TENDONITIS AND/OR BICEP PAIN
You will see the quickest recovery possible if you combine these three approaches:
1. Increase blood flow and decrease tension through active release, scraping, cupping, and blood flow restriction therapy.
2. Stretching not only the bicep but also the joints/muscles above and below the bicep.
3. Strengthening the rotator cuff muscles to improve the biomechanics of the entire arm (do this after your pain is gone!)
