This is the only way I would fix a piece of broken pottery. The glaze is stronger than the clay in most cases, so if you can get the glaze to seep into the cracks I think you would be left with a piece that should be able to be used for a long time. I would never do this for work I would sell, nor would I fire a piece that I didn't originally fire because you never know what cone the clay/glaze is.
