Phil Gayle, Trust Chair, starts off the week by featuring in a quick-fire questions video as part of the Trust’s Black History Month celebrations.
Born in the UK, Phil talks about his Jamaican heritage, sharing his love for the culture, food and the diversity that it adds to the UK.
He also touches on the adversity both his parents faced when they came to the United Kingdom in the early 60s. Growing up, Phil recounts how he lived in an area where they were the only Black family on the street and the racism that sadly came with that.
Phil also discusses how his mother’s strength and encouragement played a big part in his life as well as his siblings, attributing their successes to her always believing in her children.
