U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke about ongoing talks over COVID-19 relief and accused President Donald Trump of trying to "undermine democracy" by saying he wouldn't put up any money for the U.S. Postal Service. Trump had earlier in the day vowed to block any money to facilitate mail-in voting as election infrastructure became a major talking point on coronavirus relief funding.
Pelosi said any relief bill should include billions of dollars to not only protect Americans' right to vote, but also essential services like the mailing of prescription medicine during the pandemic.
The Speaker also spoke the upcoming Democratic National Convention scheduled for next week, with much of it virtual, and said she would be giving her speech live but by virtual method. She went on to speak highly of Sen. Kamala Harris as Joe Biden's vice-presidential pick, saying even if she was against a group of men, the 55-year-old senator would beat them all for the spot because she "really is the best person" to be vice-president.
