Extensive research has shown that mechanical tension across skin wounds can worsen scarring. This occurs largely due to a process called mechanotransduction, where cells actively sense, integrate, and convert mechanical stimuli (i.e., tension) into biochemical signals. This is why certain areas of the body, such as around the joints, are at higher risk for scarring.
We employ a variety of techniques and tools focused on scar minimization. Together, these approaches work to redistribute tension away from the incision. The specific techniques we use vary depending on the type of surgery. In the video, @dralitehrani discusses his use of Galaflex mesh, which acts as a supportive hammock for the implant. This method shifts the weight away from the skin envelope, reducing the chance of scarring.
When paired with post-operative recovery treatments, such as Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy and @elixirMD light treatments, these techniques give our patients the best possible chance of achieving the outcomes they deserve. #breastaugmentationsurgery
