A proposed bill could help keep children safer online by helping parents keep tabs on their kids' tabs.
The "Kids Online Safety Act" requires social media platforms to "put the well-being of children first." It aims to address social media addiction by limiting features that encourage extended use, such as auto-play for videos. As written in the bill, a "minor" means anyone 16 years of age or younger.
The bill also restricts sharing the geolocation of minors, allows kids to opt out of algorithmic recommendations and requires readily accessible parental tools – streamlining the process for reporting dangerous activity.
