Paris is the capital city of France, Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of the world's major centres of finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, gastronomy, science, and arts. An interesting fact is that the “City of Light” has the second-highest cost of living anywhere in the world.
Paris is especially known for its museums and architectural landmarks: the Louvre the Musée d'Orsay, The Pompidou Centre has the largest collection of modern art in Europe.
The historical district along the Seine in the city centre has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with incredible landmarks such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame (closed for renovation after a fire in 2019). Other popular tourist sites include the Royal Chapel of Sainte-Chapelle and the Eiffel Tower. Also the Arc de Triomphe sits at one end of the famous shopping avenue of the Champs-Élysées.
